Netmiser Tips

  1. pay yourself first from your paycheque and live off the remainder;
  2. pay your credit card bills on time;
  3. brown bag it, instead of buying your lunch, 3 times a week;
  4. get rid of credit cards from department stores and gas companies. Their annual rate is as high as 24%;
  5. review all costs regularly (insurance, long distance, cable);
  6. hold garage sales, take your items to consignment shops or auction them off at E-Bay or any of the other on-line auction houses. Anything that does not hold some sentimental value is just taking up space. It has served its purpose;
  7. buy items second hand at garage sales, consignment stores, flea markets if a used item will be as good as a new one at 50% the price or less,
  8. develop money saving habits (turn off the lights and appliances when not in use);
  9. check your local movie theatre, they may have twilight specials or family nights that are less expensive;
  10. for downtown shoppers, consider making a weekly trip to the suburbs. You may find their regular prices are a little cheaper; and,
  11. shop at sales and buy non-perishable items in bulk.
For Major Expenditures, eg. trips; car repairs; cars; home repairs; home improvements; etc. - a good friend of mine suggests, obtaining three quotes to ensure a competitive price.
